The awards recognise those with long-term view of philanthropy as a means to achieve empowerment across the African nation. One of the recipients of these awards for the year 2021 was Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is one of the most respected and well-known businessmen, entrepreneur, philanthropist as well as charity worker in Zambia. His business experience and philanthropic contributions span more than four decades. Dr. Mahtani is the owner of several top companies in Zambia. Some of his top companies are Mahtani Group and Finsbury Investments. His company Mahtani group has transformed itself into a conglomerate, spanning across different regions such as Malawi, South Africa, and Zambia. Also, the conglomerate has stepped into several sectors such as insurance, mining, real estate, agriculture, energy and many more. Across all these sectors, the company has not only provided employment and livelihood opportunities, but also improved the overall community and environment. Dr. Mahtani is known for his several philanthropic and charitable achievements over the years. Some of these achievements are Prison Fellowship Zambia as well as the Stephen Malama award and scholarship for top law graduates in Zambia. For his significant business and philanthropic contributions, especially towards redefining the banking industry of Zambia, Forbes conferred Dr. Rajan Mahtani with ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year’ award 2021.
